1. CLASSES:
Late Etiquette:
If you are late for class, wait for the music to stop before knocking on the door. Once invited in remember to apologize respectfully.
Uniforms:
Students must wear the assigned uniform for their classes. After 3 classes of not wearing the uniform, the instructor may ask the student to sit out or leave the room. The student may return to class once the uniform is worn.
Viewing Etiquette:
Those who stay and watch classes are asked to respect the positive environment the faculty creates by not discussing students, or the instructor.
Attendance:
Attendance is expected for all classes. Unless contagious, students are expected to attend and watch in order to maintain the knowledge needed to continue with classes once feeling better. Please inform instructor of situation before sitting down.
If a student misses class(es) for any reason (including family vacations, sick days or outside activities), she or he must learn what was taught from the other students. The progress of the other students in the class can not be held back in order to re-teach what was missed.
When students have schedule conflicts, they are to inform the instructor of the upcoming conflicts times in writing. If possible, the instructor may plan their classes to accommodate the student. If a student misses too many classes and is unable to ‘make up’ the work, the instructor may withdraw the student from an examination, or the 'Year End'' piece.
2. COMPANY AND FESTIVALS
Code of Conduct:
Read, sign and hand in the code of conduct given to each student at the beginning of the year.
Festival Venue Requirements:
- ARRIVAL TIME: Arrive at the time requested by your Choreographer or least one hour before the scheduled session in case other pieces are cancelled or moved and your piece is moved ahead.
- COSTUME: Arrive with costume and make-up. Your costume should be clean, hung nicely and organized with all of the required pieces. The best way to achieve this is to have a list of the entire costume ensemble taped to the outside of the costume bag and to check items off.
- HAIR and MAKE-UP: Your Choreographer will instruct you as to what the hair and make-up should be for the piece. You are expected to have all of the necessary items to achieve this look with you upon arrival.
- CONDUCT AT FESTIVAL: You are representing the studio from the minute you walk into the festival venue, and are expected to behave respectfully. For example: Do not discuss other dancers or studios; do not make noise; refrain from making public comments about your self or the studio, etc. Everyone is equal when at festival. Student(s) found behaving improperly may be asked to leave the venue by the Choreographer.
- PARENTS: Parents may wait discreetly with their student where permitted. They may be requested by the Choreographer to be a helper 'back-stage', but in most instances it is requested that parents wait in the audience for their dancer. Dancers must prepare and focus prior to performing without interference.
3. EXAMINATION DAY:
Who Takes The Exam:
- For RAD Ballet, ISTD Modern and ISTD tap, the instructor sends certain students home with an examinations fees sheet. Only students who are ready will take examinations. Some students may be asked to do a Presentation to the examiner which prepares them for the time when they will do the exam formally. To avoid undue stress, or to avoid having a student do badly on an exam, some students may be asked to wait until they are ready. A student not asked to take an examination or presentation, when they are ready. Not being asked to do the exam is not a reflection of intelligence or work ethic. Progress is individual and unique. It is the instructor only who gauges this progress.
- Respond by e-mail to confirm your student's participation in the examination or presentation.
Dates and Times:
- The dates and times of each examination will be posted and emailed.
- Note the arrival time as well as a specific pick up time. It is different from the actual exam time to ensure there is enough time to warm up, review and relax before going into the examination.
Commitment:
All students registered for exams are expected to attend all their classes 2 months prior to the examination as well as the examination itself.
Uniforms and Appearance:
- Students will be expected to be wearing their class uniform, cleaned and ready for the big day.
- Hair must be slick and secure with a hair net and pins as for ballet. There is no make-up required.
The Examination:
- The examiner cannot meet students or parents/guardians before or after the exam.
- Extreme quiet and concentration are needed for the examiner and students. Parents may come in and help them into their uniform but, after that, please leave us to focus.
- Please do not speculate about the results. The ‘experience’ of the exam is what is most important.
4. LOUNGE AND CHANGE ROOM:
