The faculty will deliberate and discuss the pieces they wish to create and students will be chosen based on their past performance experience and conduct, technical abilities, and age via their application form and performance in classes. Your child may not be chosen for all of the pieces they wished. The reasons are many and include:

not having a high enough level of dance technique for the intended choreography.

age restrictions for group pieces deemed by festivals.

faculty may not want to burden students by entering them too many pieces.

Please encourage you child to be gracious of the outcome. We find that students who apply themselves diligently have very positive experiences.
Once decisions have been made a list of dancers for each piece will posted and emailed detailing schedules, fees and any other pertinent information.






Attendance to all rehearsals is mandatory.

Due to the nature of the rehearsals and the choreographers given time allotment this must be enforced. The choreographer has the right to remove a student who misses even one rehearsal without an acceptable reason.







The student, with the support of their parent or guardian, commits to attend all Festivals/Performances the studio participates in. These include:

The Upper Island Music Festival in Nanaimo

The DanceWorks Festival in Victoria

The Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival

Possibly the North Island Festival in Courtenay

If your student is unable to attend any one of these they may be withdrawn from the piece.

'The Joy of Dance' year end show

Community/School Performances - TBA

If students would like to enter a piece of their own choreography which has been rehearsed and polished they may do so under the Young Choreographers section of Festival.

If you wish to enter your piece please have your information (title, style, dancers names, length of piece, choreographers, which festival to enter) in to Dana Fry in writing by December 15th, 2010.







All students who wish to enter a solo/duet/trio with one of our instructors must participate in at least one group piece.

All students attending Westcoast Academy of Performing Arts are expected to enter their solos under the studio, except as permitted by Dana Fry.

Although we would like to accommodate solos/duets/trios for all who are interested, it may not be possible for every student. Choreographers, who are independent contractors, choose whom they wish to create a solo/duet/trio for not Westcoast Academy of Performing Arts. You will make your interest known to choreographers.





Each company piece will have a rehearsal fee, entry fee and costume fee. Rehearsal fees cover every rehearsal, including extras, the spacing rehearsal at UVic and administration costs for festival entries. Entry fees for each festival entered are deemed by the festival and allow entry into the festivals to perform. Costume fees cover the costume, shipping, and accessories needed to perform. We have always tried our best to keep the costs of costumes down by reusing costumes.

A detailed fee schedule will be added when finalized.

Fees are payable by either: dividing your total by 8 and writing monthly cheques from October to May; dividing your total by 2 and making a installment in October and February; or by paying the total all at once in October. Please let us know which of these you prefer to do once receiving the audition outcomes.
